This table was last updated on the 7th August 2026 and based on quotes obtained directly from each competitor's website for a rental at Malaga airport from 10th August to 17th August 2026 for a mid-sized SUV (e.g. Nissan Qashqai or CUPRA Formentor) ** Based on the maximum 20% loyalty discount available to Insure & Escape Plus members, in most cases Insure & Escape Plus loyalty discount will vary between 15% and 20%, see Plus benefits for more information.
While our cover is generally more comprehensive than that of a car hire company, our cover requires you to pay the excess if you damage your rental car and reclaim it from us. Car hire company cover, while significantly more expensive, offers more convenience as if you damage your rental car there is no excess to pay.
For example, if your excess with the car rental company was €750 and you damaged your rental vehicle, you would pay the rental company €750 and they would pay the remaining cost of the claim. You would then claim back the €750 you paid, from Insure & Escape. If you had alternatively taken the car rental company cover your excess would have been reduced to €0 saving you the hassle of paying and reclaiming.
